PROJECT REWRAP
Environmental storytelling
Tools used
Autodesk Maya 2017, Adobe Photoshop 2017, Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2017
Inspired by
Max Payne 2 - The Fall of Max Payne
OBJECTIVE
To build a 3D game level inspired by a game of liking and create a video walkthrough. Midway through the video, there needs to be a drastic transition from the original Game Art style to an Art Style unique to the designer. Thus, 'Rewrap' your Game World.
DESIGN PROCESS
The Narrative
Wake up in a hospital
Feeling perplexed. No recollection of the past. Need to get away from the nauseous hospital air
Get out for fresh air
Explore the outside world - Surprised to find nobody - Emptiness metaphorical to isolation from public
Subtle warnings of impending turmoil
Visuals remind the protagonist of a dark past - broken house, misplaced furniture - something bad is about to come
Mental Breakdown following Emotional Trigger
Confront the portrait of the dead wife, succumb to hallucinations - change in style to hellfire, lava, and stone
Return to Medication
Struggle to get back to the hospital through the hallucination. Finally rests again, exhausted

Tension Map
T1 - First Tension spike
T2 - Second Tension Spike
T3 - Third Tension Spike
T - Emotional Trigger
E- End of Hallucination
The emotions on top depict what the viewer is supposed to feel while viewing the Video.
Emotion Mapping

Anxiety
In the beginning, there needs to be a hint of something unsettling that has already transpired in this world in order to instigate anxiety. Hence this phase features a Hospital setup and the viewer is not told how the protagonist got here.

Curiosity
The viewer will want to guess the events of this world. So the second stage will require elements of this world that the viewer can relate to. This part of the video will feature an exploration of the protagonist's vicinity.

Caution
The next phase was designed to give the viewer some visual clues at a subconscious level that hint at the events of this world. Each hint will add tension to the scene. This phase will feature three tension peaks.
T1 - House with broken walls
T2 - Closeup shot of a portrait of a couple
T3 - A table with one chair standing while the other chair has fallen on the floor.

Steady Tension
The three tension peaks are meant for setting up the stage in anticipation of a greater tension peak. The phase between them is like drumrolls. This phase will feature a broken wall in the house leading into a warehouse (a stereotypical crime scene location).

Rising Tension
After the steady tension, we have a trigger point, T, which sets off a steep rising tension graph. This represents confrontation of the main conflict. This is followed by a dramatic sequence featuring the protagonist's attempts to escape his horrors. Here the trigger is a portrait of the protagonist's dead wife and the dramatic phase is represented by the transition in the art style to feature hell like surroundings.

Relief
The final Phase which leads to a resolution of the conflict. Hence the protagonist finally gets back to where he started off and gets relief from the hallucination. Then the viewer learns that the protagonist is in fact mentally ill and cannot leave medication of the hospital without risking serious mental traumas.
